…one man's best friend

Everyone thinks their pet is the absolute best ever.  And I am no exception.  But I do think Ricky was extra special in many ways; mostly just to me.  He was my first pet as a grown-up.  I waited 30 years to have dog.

Ricky’s passing hit me like a ton of bricks. I knew he was getting older but I thought we had more time. Those last few weeks, when the inevitable was upon us, were a very sad but special time for me.  The decision to help him pass was not an easy one but I know it was the right thing to do,

I realize that all of our lives are filled with sadness and difficult times.  What I went through doesn’t even compare with what I know many of you have and are going through now.  This is not meant to be a comparison. It is simply a way to capture those last few weeks so as not to forget.

Many have asked about my experience. There was a beauty even in the most difficult of times that upon reflection has helped me.  I also hope that it provides comfort for others who have gone through this type of experience to know that they are not alone and to help those facing difficult decision understand how one person did it.

For those of you who knew Ricky I hope it brings back some wonderful memories of a very special friend.
